New: McGill Medical Simulation Centre Tour

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) is pleased to announce the upcoming symposium on Computer Simulation in Medicine (CompMed), co-supported by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). CompMed will be held on May 16-18, 2007 at the NRC 's Industrial Materials Institute, located on the south shore of Montreal.

The symposium will provide a forum for industry, medical practitioners and researchers to interact and learn about advancements in computer simulation and its direct applications to medicine.

Invited speakers as well as contributing oral sessions are featured. In particular, the symposium will focus on the development and use of virtual technologies for surgical training and rehearsal, as well as conceptual design of medical devices. The subjects of interest are:

  • Conceptual design and simulation of medical device performance
  • Immersive visualization
  • Real-time simulation, haptic feedback and surgical robots
  • Geometric modelling from medical images
  • Properties of cells and tissue for simulation
  • Patient specific tissue properties
