March 19–20, 2004
Montreal, Quebec, Canada

M. Dumoulin (NRC-IMI)

Objectives

The objective of this workshop is to foster discussions involving leading scientists working on fundamental aspects of Nanoscience (Quantum Dots, Spintronics, Quantum Computation, Supramolecular Assemblies) as well as enabling technologies for the advanced characterization and fabrication of nanostructures (scanning probe microscopy, etc.).

Taking advantage of the APS (American Physical Society) March Meeting in Montreal in 2004 (March 22–26, 2004), we are planning a focused workshop on Nanoscience and Nanostructured Materials on March 19th and 20th.

The goal is to bring together some of the high caliber “nano” speakers that will participate in the APS meeting into a more focused two–day workshop, to promote scientific discussions and interactions (which are cumbersome at the APS itself, because of the size of the meeting and all the competing parallel sessions). The workshop would therefore be complementary to the larger and broader APS meeting.

Topics

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Nanostructured materials
  • Nanofabrication approaches
  • Quantum Dots
  • Self–Assembly
  • Advances in Scanning Probe Microscopy
Conference format

Three oral sessions (Friday morning and afternoon, Saturday morning) and one poster session (Saturday afternoon). The oral sessions would be mainly composed of Keynote (Invited) talks. Depending on final program adjustments, there may be a few slots (5–10) available for Oral presentation. However, since one of the primary objectives of this workshop is to foster discussions and interactions among participants, we strongly encourage to take full advantage of the poster session.
